Five of the seven families of butterflies are represented in this part of Cornwall. The families are the; Pieridae which include the whites and the yellows; the Satyridae which include the browns; the Nymphalidae which include the Fritillaries and the Vanessids; the Lycaenidae which include the hairstreaks, coppers, and blues; and finally the Hesperiidae comprised of the skippers.
