Roger is a self-taught artist whose early work from the flat lands of north Norfolk gained momentum with his move to Cornwall. Taking inspiration from the Cornish countryside and seashore, especially after the move to Penwith with its own unique landscape, he uses this visual input as inspiration for his current work. Many of his landscapes reveal more than just an appealing scene as they have an evocative quality that invokes an emotional response in the viewer, whether it be the memory of a summer’s day in childhood or the threat of a coming storm.
Lately the special vibrancy of this part of Cornwall has also influenced his move to painting with vivid acrylics, developing an increasingly abstract way of portraying light, colour and form.
As Roger says, “My art has reflected my life in as much as, initially, everything was ‘black and white’ which was how life appeared to me as a fifties schoolboy. In later years as I have become happier and more settled, the joy of colour and shape has taken on many more aspects and meanings for me. The ideas I explore in my latest work are just as important to me as any of my earlier, more traditional, work. My aim is to interest other people in how I interpret these elements and bring them together in various ways.” For more information on his work please see www.rogerjardine.com or contact 01736 732728. |
