Cornwall has a full complement of venus shells ( Veneridae ). The number of species is larger in Cornwall, as here are not only found the northern species but also the southern.

The striped venus is a small triangular shaped shell reaching only one and a half inches.
The shell has fine concentric rings and brown rays.
Brown Venus Callista chioneA smooth, shiny shell reaching over three inches. The shell has concentric lines and brownish rays. The rays are not obvious in this specimen.
The shell is distinctive with its prominent concentric ridges and warty appearance
