Cowries

Cowries are small oval distinctive shells of under half an inch. They are found on the beaches around Penwith, but are commonly overlooked as they are hard to see on the ground. Only the shells are seen, not the live animal. Two species are found, the arctic cowrie, and the european. They are both carnivores feeding on sea squirts.

Artic Cowrie Trivia arctica & European Cowrie Trivia monacha

Both species are covered together as they are so much alike, the european has typically three spots.
