St Just Church SW 456-385

Confirmation of the early habitation in this area is exhibited by the Selus stone dating from the fifth or sixth century.

The stone is inscribed in latin SELUS IC IAC-T, which translates to' here lies Selus'. While on another face is a Chi Rho cross, an early representational form of the cross. The Selus Stone was found in the wall close to the altar of St Just Church.

In the churchyard can be seen two medieval crosses. Inside the church of the same period are two medieval secco paintings, with Saint George representing good and the dragon evil.

There is a carved pew, dating from the seventeenth century and a Saxon broken cross shaft of the ninth century.
