METABOLIST
YEARS
Released
two E.Ps, one album on tape and two
albums on vinyl and are something of
a collectors item. In the late seventies
they gigged in London and were featured
in the music press and the John Peel
show, having been discovered by luminaries
such as Brian Eno from Roxy Music, Pete
Townsend, the band Can, British Avant
Garde band Henry Cow and members of
the band Gong. The band was described
to by the British music press circa
1977; as one of ten most interesting
bands in the country together with the
Soft Machine. It was the drummer from
the band Gong, Pip Pyle, circa "Camanbert
Electrique" period who very nearly
replaced Ged when he left the band to
leave London.

DEJA VOODOO YEARS
THE CORNISHMAN, THURSDAY, 27 JUNE
2002
Like a bat out of Hayle
WELL not Hayle, Camborne actually and it's
Scott Maltloaf.
But no matter. Scott is just as rock'n'roll as his
American counterpart, has the blues everyday and
now fronts Deja Voodoo.
He joins Ged Kingsford (drums), Polly Garland
(bass) and Tony Farmer (guitar), who got together
following a jam session last year in St
Ives.
"I'd seen him sing before and thought he was very
good," jays Ged of Scott, who also sang in Blues
Busters and Reality Check. "So when I heard he
wasn't in a band, I thought
‘great!’’’
Since Scott joined, Ged reckons the band has
'relaxed much more', and found its feet so to
speak.
Already, they're planning to 90 into the studio to
make their third album, as well as play in Devon
and further upcountry throughout the
year.
In the meantime, the blues rock band have a busy
weekend ahead. You can catch them in the Mazey Day
marquee, Penzance, on Saturday at 2 pm, and at the
First and Last Inn, Sennen, on June 29,
or at the Docker's Rest Cafe back in
Penzance on Sunday at 3 pm, also as part of the
Golowarn Festival.
Anyone interested in booking or Managing Deja
Voodoo should contact Ged on
0173363394. |

THE CORNISHMAN, THURSDAY, 31 AUGUST
2006
Crosstown
Traffic, performing for Oxfam at The Acorn
tomorrow.
LEGENDARY
band Crosstown Traffic are re-forming for
what promises to be an epic night in aid
of Oxfam at Penzance's Acorn Theatre tomorrow.
Together
with Ollie and his 'Stacks of Axe' disco,
the band will be playing the music of Jimi
Hendrix.
The
overall theme of the night will be purple
- so don that wig and pyschedaelia will
reign supreme.
The
band, made up of Ty on lead guitar and vocals,
Ged Kingsford on drums, and Emma Spires,
playing bass, split about five years, ago.
|
|
|
|
They
last played together as a supposed one-off
at the Sunday Mazey celebration of 2005.
Emma
says: "Suddenly, with very little publicity,
everyone was there. We were stunned at how
many people loved the gig and wanted to
see us at a sizeable venue."
Ged
described the reason behind the concert.
"It"s essential to keep the pressure
on governments across the globe, to look
at trade injustice and its intrinsic part
in perpetuating poverty
"Make
Poverty History wasn't just a party - if
we can make just a small difference and
prevent some children from starving then
it's worth doing."
Crosstown
Traffic are playing from 8pm until midnight.
Tickets,
priced at £7 in advance (£6 concession)
and £8 on the door are available from Oxfam,
Penzance, and from the Acorn Theatre.
