Libby
has written songs in all kinds of
genres for other artists as well as
herself. She also writes songs,
stories and poetry for young children.
Libby has always worked with children
and really loves what they give her as
much as how she can support them and
their families.
For
two years Libby toured with a Jim
Reeves tribute show which took her all
over England and as she says 'one
theatre ends up looking just like
another! - but it was good fun and
taught me something about discipline,
both musically and
personally!
A
weeks gigs in Scotland inspired me to
write a song called 'Wings of a
Memory' which was later included on an
album along with another couple of
country flavoured songs - a new
departure for me, I am more of a
balladeer!'
In
May 2001 Libby staged a community
charity concert of music and dance
called 'Just One Night' in her local
village hall. It was a resounding
success and another followed a year
later called 'Boogie Nights' this was
a two-nighter hosted on one night by
Radio Cornwalls own Janette Ethorne.
Again, both nights were pretty much
sell-outs! 'in all' says Libby 'We
raised approx £2,800 for local and
National charities during 2001/02 -
hard work, good fun and definitely
worth it.
I
love staging concerts filled with
local talent and hope to get going on
the next one in time for Christmas
2004!' Libby says her style has
changed a lot recently - although
lyrics, harmony and accessibility
remain steadfast in her
work!!
You
should continue to check out local
listings in the Cornishman, as Libby
and her special friend and musical
'co-hort' Annie often perform at local
venues along with Jo on her
conga's!
Libby's
album 'As Far As I Can See' is
available now and is a collection of
acoustic songs written by Libby and
performed by her and some good
friends! All the songs are very
lyrical and reflect Libby's love of
harmony and words. 'I write about all
sorts really, and I love different
sounds and texture & in music.
However this collection is mainly
written with a guitar emphasis - the
words are very important to me and I
hope they touch a chord with other
people too. I love the way the songs
develop and unfold, meanings taking
new shapes and sentences weaving life
in different ways.'
One
of the songs 'Oceans' is written from
the point of view of a mother speaking
to her child in the midst of war.
Libby says 'Although about war and the
waste of life, It is essentially a
hopeful song, with a simple melody
line, one of those songs that wrote
itself - the words and title 'Oceans'
illustrate the relentless tidal wave
that war becomes and the flowing
strength of human spirit often borne
out of it. I hope people enjoy hearing
it and the other tracks on the
album.'
Libby
very much enjoyed working with Frankie
Abbot to produce this album of her
work - and is limbering up her pen for
the next one!! 'I'm under no illusions
about actually writing the next' White
Christmas' but you never know!!
