St Michaels Mount

St Michaels Mount is the most prominent feature in the Mounts Bay area and one of the most visited National Trust properties in Cornwall. Marazion is the departure point for the Mount whether on foot or ferry. This brings a great many visitors to Marazion.

Originally the site of a pre-Norman priory, St Michael's Mount was constructed in the twelfth century as an abbey. Later in the fourteenth century  it was built as a fort against the Spanish.

Causeway To St Michaels Mount Covered By Tide

The Mount has been an important trading post for over 2000 years and is reputed to be Ictis where tin was sold to the ancient Greeks.

The Mount is separated from the mainland by a quarter of a mile causeway, which is uncovered by the receding tide. When the causeway is covered by the tide the Mount has to be reached via a short boat ride.

The attractions on the Mount include shops, restaurant and cafe. Within the castle are paintings, fine rooms, antique furniture and an armoury. There are canons on the ramparts.

Marazion Town Museum

The museum is located in the market place within the Town Hall of Marazion.

This building was once a local gaol. A cell from this period has been reconstructed and can be viewed.

Other exhibits include historical artefacts pertinent to Marazion.
