Nyria's
Mer-girls are exclusive designs using locally sourced
beachcombing finds; knots and netting from tangled fishing
nets, pieces of driftwood crafted by the sea
and
shells particular to the Cornish coast such as
limpets, winkles, mussels, periwinkles, razor shells,
scallops, cockles, whelks. small cowries, pheasant
eyes and top shells.
Pieces of green and blue
sea glass worn smooth by winter storms, discarded gull
feathers, dog fish egg cases ( known as 'mermaids'
purses), bladderwrack seaweed and other interesting
finds from along the strandline are also used for decoration.
Each
mermaid wears a 'slipper' limpet in her tail and has
an individual name and personality
